The wife of Imran vowed her unborn child to Allah’s service — expecting a son for the Temple, she delivered a daughter, Maryam. “My Lord, I have delivered a female,” she said, “and the male is not like the female” — yet Allah accepted her with beautiful acceptance and placed her under the care of Zakariya (3:35–37). In the sanctuary, out-of-season fruits kept appearing before her; asked their source, she answered simply: it is from Allah (3:37).
Then came angels with shattering news: Allah gives glad tidings of a word from Him — the Messiah, Isa son of Maryam — honoured in this world and the Hereafter (3:45). “How can I have a son when no man touched me?” she asked. “So it will be,” came the reply — “your Lord says: it is easy for Me” (19:20–21).
When labour seized her, she withdrew to a distant place, wishing in her pain she had been forgotten (19:22–23). Then a voice comforted her from beneath: grieve not — your Lord placed a stream below you — and commanded her to shake the palm trunk, so fresh dates fell (19:24–26). Provision, water and comfort arrived together at her lowest hour.
She carried the infant to her people, who erupted in accusation. Instructed to fast from speech, she pointed to the baby (19:27–29). “How do we speak to one in the cradle?” they scoffed — and the newborn spoke: I am Allah’s servant; He gave me the Scripture and made me a prophet, blessed wherever I am (19:30–31).
The cradle speech vindicated Maryam forever and fixed Isa’s station: servant and prophet, not son of God — “such is Isa son of Maryam, the word of truth about which they dispute” (19:34–36).
