Ayyub — Patience That Healed

Ayyub lived in blessing — wealth, family, health — and filled it all with gratitude. Then affliction struck: his body wasted with illness, his wealth and strength stripped away, until only his tongue and heart remained for remembrance. The trial stretched over years, yet no complaint against Allah ever passed his lips.

Through it all his wife remained — serving him, earning their bread, enduring poverty beside him when all others withdrew. Her loyalty through his worst years stands among the Quran’s quiet monuments to faithfulness.

At last Ayyub turned to his Lord, not with demands but with a tender report: harm has touched me, and You are the Most Merciful of the merciful (21:83). No “why me,” no deadline — only need laid before mercy. The Quran pairs his patience with praise: Satan’s touch brought the harm, but Ayyub’s response was pure worship (38:41).

The answer came as action: strike the ground with your foot — a spring of cool water for washing and drinking (38:42). He bathed and drank, and the affliction lifted as suddenly as mercy always lifts: health restored, youth renewed.

Then Allah restored his family — and doubled it — as “a mercy from Us and a reminder for worshippers” (21:84). The divine epitaph on his life reads: indeed We found him patient — an excellent servant, ever turning back (38:43–44).
